Walks from Hurley Village

Hurley sits on the River Thames between Marlow and Henley-on-Thames, with easy access to the Thames Path National Trail for riverside walking.

A key practical note before you set off: Temple Bridge (Temple Footbridge) on the Thames Path has been closed since 15 May 2023, with an official signed diversion in place. National Trails says the closure will remain “for the foreseeable future”.

The Dew Drop Inn

Hurley to The Dew Drop Inn: riverside and woodland loop

If you want a walk that feels properly rural but still ends with a pint, this is a strong option.

Route type: circular

Suggested route: “Dew Drop Inn/Hurley circular route” (OS Maps Route Here)

Distance: 9.13 km

Estimated time: 2h 29m (per OS Maps)

Start/finish: Hurley village

Pub stop: The Dew Drop Inn, Honey Lane, Hurley, Maidenhead SL6 6RB

What you’ll walk through

  • A mix of Thames-side paths and woodland/field footpaths, finishing at (or passing) the Dew Drop Inn.

Tip: Opening times can change, so check ahead if you’re timing the walk around lunch.

Hurley to Marlow: Thames Path walk (with the official diversion)

This is the classic “walk one way, explore Marlow, then come back by bus or train” day out.

Route type: linear (one way)

Distance: A local Hurley visitor guide puts Hurley–Marlow at about 3.5 miles along the Thames Path, but you should allow extra time/distance at the moment because of the Temple Bridge closure and diversion.

How to walk it right now (high level)

  • From Hurley Lock, follow the Thames Path towards Marlow, then take the official signed National Trail diversion, which leads you via public footpaths and Temple Lane/Bisham before you rejoin the Thames Path and continue into Marlow.

Safety note: the official diversion includes a section on a narrow road with no pavement, so take extra care.

Return options

  • Bus: Carousel Buses 850 runs through Marlow and Henley (check times before you rely on it).

The Flower Pot.jpeg

Hurley to Henley-on-Thames via The Flower Pot (Aston)

This is a lovely Thames-side walk into Henley with a rewarding detour for food.

Route type: linear (one way)

Distance: A local Hurley visitor guide puts Hurley–Henley at about 5.5 miles along the Thames Path.

The pub detour

  • The Flower Pot is in Aston, about two miles from Henley-on-Thames, and positions itself as a “Thames Path location”.

  • Walk Henley also flags the Flower Pot as a highlight on its Henley–Marlow route that passes through Hurley, which is a helpful indicator that it’s a natural stop on this stretch.

How to do it (simple approach)

  • Follow the Thames Path from Hurley towards Henley, then detour into Aston for The Flower Pot (RG9 3DG), and continue on to Henley.

Return options

  • Bus: Thames Valley Buses 228 runs Maidenhead → Hurley → Henley (limited journeys, so check first).
