About Music and Arts at Hurley

Music & Arts at Hurley

Music & Arts at Hurley is a community-based programme of concerts and creative events in Hurley, Berkshire, created to bring people together around music, spoken word and other art forms.

What it is

Founded through a collaboration between Rev Tom Etherton (Vicar of the Parish of Burchetts Green, which Hurley is part of) and Jonathan Miall (organist at Hurley and founder of Cookham’s Cantorum Choir), the initiative is supported by local residents and aims to build an accessible, welcoming cultural programme in the village.

The organisers have set out a plan for the festival to run every two years, widening the range of artists and performers over time, with support including a donation from the Hurley Village Association to help establish the festival.

Highlights from Music and Arts in Hurley

The first Music & Arts Festival at Hurley ran 3–5 May 2024, with events across the weekend including live music, art displays, jazz, and a Festival Eucharist.

There have also been a number of young soloist concerts bringing together some of the best young talent in a showcase in the beautiful setting of the village Church.

What’s coming next

The programme published for future events includes:

  • Music & Arts Festival at Hurley: Friday 1 – Monday 4 May 2026, with elements including a Folk and Country Music Evening (Monks Barn), an “Open Stage” day with performance slots and visual arts (Monks Barn), and two evening concerts plus a Festival Eucharist at St Mary the Virgin Church (with some details to be confirmed).

  • A Young Soloists Concert listed for Saturday 26 April 2025 at St Mary the Virgin Church, with four named soloists: Klara Solen (mezzo-soprano), Aidan Zhao (piano), Lucy Palfery (oboe), and Kiki Skinner (cello).

Venues, getting there and parking

Events are held in St Mary the Virgin Church and Monks Barn, both in the centre of Hurley. Parking in the village is limited, with a car park next to the church and Monks Barn (postcode SL6 5NB) and marked bays on the High Street. The guidance also notes active ticketing and an overflow car park on the riverside accessed via the lane just before Hurley Village Shop.
