About the Hurley Regatta and Fun Day
Hurley Regatta and Fun Day
Hurley Regatta is a long-running village tradition on the River Thames in Hurley, bringing together friendly competition on the water and a full day of family fun on land. It proudly describes itself as “messing about in boats since 1973”.
A bit of history
The present Hurley Regatta began in 1973, started by members of Hurley Tennis Club to raise money for a new hard court. A small committee was formed to get it off the ground, with boats provided by Peter Freebody and the venue provided by Hurley Farms Ltd.
What happens on the day
The regatta is designed for participation, spectating, and getting involved as a village. There are races and challenges for a wide range of ages and confidence levels, and the programme is built around fun and friendly rivalry.
On the water, recent regattas have included events such as raft races, bathtub races, canoe and kayak races, paddleboard races and katakanu events, with boats and equipment provided for competitors.
On land, there are typically plenty of activities running alongside the racing, plus food, drink and entertainment as part of the wider Fun Day.
A fundraising event for local causes
Hurley Regatta is also about giving back. The regatta team reports total donations of £114,000 since it started, and each year supports selected local charities.
Everyone is welcome to take part
Hurley Regatta is organised and run by a volunteer committee, and there are lots of ways to get involved.
You can enter races, come along as a spectator, volunteer on the day, or support through sponsorship and donations.
When it takes place
The regatta is typically held in August. The most recent published event date on the official website was 16 August 2025. For the latest date, tickets and race entry information, check the Hurley Regatta website.
